Leeds United: Charles De Ketelaere responds 'coldly' to potential Elland Road move
Club Brugge forward Charles De Ketelaere has responded “coldly” to the suggestion of a potential move to Leeds United, according to Italian news outlet Calciomercato.
It had been reported by The Daily Mail on 25 June that the Whites are set to launch a £26million bid for the 21-year-old attacker.
However, it has been reported by Italian football website Calciomercato on 25 June that the player is leaning towards a move to join Serie A champions AC Milan.
“The player [De Ketelaere] has responded coldly to the advances of the Whites, preferring a leading scenario in Italy to a secondary one in England,” wrote Calciomercato.
“The player is on vacation and will remain until the end of next week, and in this period of time, much of his near future will be decided.”
If the Italian news outlet are to be believed then it is a big blow for Jesse Marsch as De Ketelaere is one of the most sought-after youngsters in Europe at the moment.
If Leeds managed to sign the forward then it would seriously soften the blow of losing Raphinha if and when he departs.
The Athletic reported on 25 June that Arsenal are set to intensify their interest in the Brazilian winger with his Leeds United future very much in doubt at present.
Regardless of the forward’s stance on a potential Leeds move, it is refreshing to see the Yorkshire side actively prepare for Raphinha’s departure by looking at targets such as De Ketelaere.
Leeds’ early business has put them ahead in the transfer race at present and there should be plenty of confidence in Victor Orta and Marsch to be able to adequately replace any of their major stars that may depart the club.
