Leeds United Championship promotion prediction made by supercomputer

Leeds United are predicted to lift the Championship title this season after the 2-0 win against Derby County, according to The Opta Analyst supercomputer.

The Whites sit in second place, only point adrift of league leaders Sheffield United, after goals courtesy of Joe Rodon and Max Wober secured the three points at Elland Road on Saturday [7 December].

After the result, Chris Wilder admitted his Sheffield United outfit are miles behind Leeds this year, and his verdict is expected to come to fruition with the Whites predicted to finish the campaign with 87.75 points.

That would see them pip their West Yorkshire rivals to the Championship crown, thus securing a long-awaited Premier League return.

Leeds United are favourites to win the Championship title

Daniel Farke is performing a remarkable job at Elland Road this season, which is in no small part down to his side’s phenomenal home form in the Championship.

Leeds currently have a 41.26 per cent chance of winning the league title, over 10 per cent more likely than Sheffield United, and a 69.32 per cent chance of securing automatic promotion.

The 1-0 defeat against Southampton in the playoff final last term has undoubtedly raised the stakes at Elland Road this year – another campaign in the second tier is not considered under the realms of possibility.

However, barring the odd slip-up, which is to be expected in the Championship, the Whites have been near perfect since the underwhelming start to the campaign, and they are blowing away all opposition who travel to Elland Road.

Leeds United predicted Championship final position
The Opta Analyst supercomputer predicts Leeds United will lift the Championship title this season.

Farke has not tasted defeat at home in the league all year, albeit the German suffered a 3-0 hammering by Middlesbrough at Elland Road in the Carabao Cup, but has turned the home ground into a fortress.

Regardless, the Whites have proven they can change through the gears at any given point and look the side to beat in the Championship this year, despite not always leading the league standings.

This season has all the bearings to be a successful campaign for Farke and his men, but with so much football left to be played from now until the end of the season, they must take their promotion push one game at a time.

In other Leeds news, Illan Meslier’s exit is now on the cards at the Whites after recent developments.
