Leeds United CEO Angus Kinnear discusses the club’s Alioski contract offer

Leeds United CEO Angus Kinnear has revealed that the Whites made a good contract offer to Ezgjan Alioski.

Speaking to the Square Ball podcast, Kinnear revealed some details on what the Whites offered to the 29-year-old who left Leeds after four years to join Al-Ahil in Saudi Arabia.

The Whites clearly tried to keep Alioski, but in the end, he decided to move on from Elland Road, despite playing a key role for Leeds last season.

Kinnear said: “We had offered Gjanni a very healthy extension, which he decided to turn down, but we parted on good terms.”

The right time for Alioski to move on?

Judging by what Kinnear said, we can probably work out that the North Macedonian was offered a good deal both in terms of wages and length [Football Insider].

Ultimately, he decided that he would move on, and perhaps he felt it was the right time after helping the club win promotion and playing a key role in the Whites’ 2020/21 Premier League campaign.

Alioski was a cult hero for many Leeds fans, and it is a shame to see him go, but it is hard not to be excited by his replacement at left-back Junior Firpo.

The 24-year-old arrives with an excellent pedigree and could provide that energy down the left which Leeds will miss without Alioski in the team.

Certainly, it appears as if the club made a good offer to the 29-year-old; he just decided it was time to move on, which is a shame, but we have to respect his decision.

In other Leeds United news, the club are not far from agreeing a fee for one of their targets.
