Leeds United celebrations amaze Adam Pope after what was seen — ‘Ridiculous’

Leeds United fans turned out in enormous numbers as Daniel Farke’s team held a bus parade after winning the Championship title.

The Whites beat Burnley to top spot in the league after their 2-1 win at Home Park against Plymouth Argyle with a stoppage-time winner.

Around 150,000 people greeted Farke’s team as they paraded the Championship trophy around the city.

The Elland Road faithful made their voices heard and ensured the West Yorkshire outfit’s players arguably had an unforgettable day.

Adam Pope amazed by number of flares in Leeds United title celebrations

Adam Pope couldn’t believe the number of flares he saw at the Whites’ title celebrations.

The BBC Sport journalist reacted to the ridiculous scenes he was seeing during the West Yorkshire outfit’s bus parade, with supporters in significant numbers.

Farke’s team beat Burnley to the league title in dramatic fashion on the final day of the regular season, pipping Scott Parker’s team to the trophy on goal difference.

Speaking on Don’t Go To Bed Just Yet (5 May), Pope said: “I tell you what, I’ve not seen this many flares since the 1970s. It’s ridiculous.”

Farke deserves Elland Road stay after Championship win

There was speculation around Farke’s future at Elland Road in recent weeks, which seemed unbelievable considering what he’s been able to achieve in the current campaign.

It looked like the Whites’ hierarchy were having doubts about the German manager due to his record with Norwich City in the Premier League.

The 48-year-old head coach won promotion with the Canaries twice, but wasn’t able to replicate that success in the top flight, and it remains to be seen what the future holds for the West Yorkshire outfit.

Paraag Marathe has backed Farke at Leeds and must now give him the players needed to survive immediate relegation.

The Whites’ current squad arguably can’t be expected to compete with the best teams in England.

Illan Meslier’s replacement will evidently be needed as it doesn’t look like he’s trusted at Elland Road, with Karl Darlow ending the season as the number one.

The West Yorkshire outfit also evidently lack depth in the backline, with a new central defender and full-back needed.

Joel Piroe won the Championship golden boot, but may need more support in the Premier League.

It goes to show the work needed in LS11 soon.
