Leeds United can present better financial argument than Sporting CP for Coventry striker Viktor Gyokeres

Leeds United are reportedly capable of presenting a better financial argument than Portuguese side Sporting CP in the race to sign Viktor Gyokeres.

According to the Record [03 June, page 12], he is on top of Sporting CP’s transfer wishlist in the summer window.

Apart from these two clubs, Everton, West Ham and Newcastle are also reported to be interested in securing the 24-year-old’s services.

Will he fancy it?

Gyokeres has taken the Championship by storm over the past two seasons so there’s a feeling he’s outgrown the second tier.

This past season, he’s scored 21 goals and provided 10 assists en route to guiding his side to the play-off final.

Had Coventry won it and secured promotion, he may have considered staying there for another year, but he might look at Premier League options now.

Leeds have just gotten relegated so they might not be as attractive an option they did a few months ago.

If Gyokeres were to leave Coventry, one would assume that it would be for a club in the Premier League and not the same division that he’s playing in.

Even if Sporting are not offering him as much as Leeds, which is hard to understand at the moment, they will give him the opportunity to play in Europe and challenge for trophies each season.

In other Leeds United news, Phil Hay claims that a Whites senior player is now set to leave the club at a discounted fee post relegation and will not be signing a new contract.
