Leeds United can formalise offer for Diogo Monteiro next week in late January deal - Phil Hay

Leeds United can formalise an offer for Portuguese centre-back Diogo Monteiro next week, as reported by Phil Hay of The Atheltic.

Writing for The Atheltic (19 January), Hay shares that the Whites have a “strong interest” in Monteiro who will be 18 in a little over a week’s time.

The youngster plays for Servette in Switzerland’s Super League. The Whites have secured two signings already, and a late January signing from the club is on the cards here.

Shuffling pack

The Whites have been very active in the January window, and they are looking to add more players to the ranks.

The Yorkshire club added Max Wober from Red Bull Salzburg while Georginio Rutter has joined on a club-record fee from Hoffenheim.

Leeds are also looking to sign Azzedine Ounahi from Angers this month, and they are in talks with the player’s agent as reported by Fabrizio Romano [Made in Africa podcast; 17 January, 13m29s].

Monteiro would be an interesting addition, although he is likely to join the youth team level.

If the Whites manage to capture him, it could raise questions over the likes of Charlie Cresswell and Leo Hjelde.

At the moment, the Whites have ample players to work with, and they may need to offload some of them who they feel won’t reach the top level.

Meanwhile, the Whites secured their first win after the World Cup after beating Cardiff 5-2 at Elland Road in the third-round FA Cup replay.

In other Leeds United news, one fan favourite is likely to get the nod from the start in our predicted XI to face Cardiff.
