Leeds United: Brenden Aaronson faces vision issues despite Saturday start
Leeds United loanee Brenden Aaronson admits that he had severe vision issues despite starting the game on Saturday, 16 March.
The United States international, who is on loan at Union Berlin, played 78 minutes of the game against Werder Bremen.
He managed to find the back of the net as well but claimed that he required treatment at the half-time break.
He told Get Football News Germany (18 March): “I came in at half-time and my pupils were dilated for some reason.
“I couldn’t really see the whole game, It was really strange, really hard.
“I had eye drops for my eyes, I had some vapour rub and then it just rubbed in my eye and I couldn’t see for most of the game.
“At half-time, I got it sorted a little bit and that helped but it was difficult. It was just a mixture of eye drops and vapour that you put on your jersey and my pupils are still dilated now.”
The Leeds United loanee faces tremendous injury scare
Aaronson’s admission of experiencing severe vision issues during a professional football match highlights the potentially grave risks associated with such conditions for athletes.
Impaired vision not only compromises a player’s ability to perform optimally but also poses serious safety concerns on the field.
In a sport as fast-paced and physically demanding as football, impaired vision can lead to misjudgments, collisions and ultimately, serious injuries.
Moreover, untreated or recurrent vision problems can have long-term effects on an athlete’s career and overall well-being.
Persistent eye issues may impact performance consistency, hinder skill development and even jeopardise future opportunities in the sport.
Everyone will undoubtedly hope that Aaronson receives the necessary medical attention and support to address his vision issues effectively and safeguard his health and career.

It is paramount to prioritise the health and safety of players who put their bodies on the line week in and week out.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites have already started scouting a defender who plans to return to England in the summer transfer window.
