Leeds United boss Jesse Marsch regrets what he told players after Wolves

Jesse Marsch has admitted he instantly regretted giving his Leeds United players the day off after their comeback against Wolves at Molineux on Friday [March 20].

The Whites came back from two goals behind in the second half to win the game 3-2 thanks to goals from Jack Harrison, Rodrygo and Luke Ayling.

The win see’s Marsch’s men extend the gap to seven points from 18th placed Watford whilst remaining in 16th.

Despite the hugely positive result the American told Yorkshire Evening Post: “In the euphoria of the game, I gave them tomorrow off then, 10 minutes later, I thought why did I do that?”

Morale booster

They certainly deserved a day off after that result. It’s not as if the players don’t have enough time to fully rest and recover over the two-week international.

A few will of course have international duties, but this is a great time for the Leeds players to rest and recover both physically and mentally ahead of a very, very tough sprint to the finish line.

Understandably, the new boss wants to run a tight ship in order to keep his players fully focussed in their relegation dogfight but affording them a break will do wonders for the morale within the squad which is just as – if not more – important.

Only eight games remain in what has been an extremely difficult Premier League season.

The Whites have to finish the season strong in order to avoid the drop with the games against Watford and Brentford absolutely crucial.
