Leeds United: Bobby Thomas hits out at Crysencio Summerville after ‘argy-bargy’ v Coventry

Coventry City goalscorer Bobby Thomas hit out at Leeds United star Crysencio Summerville after the two were involved in an incident after the final whistle in the Championship clash on 16 December.

Thomas claimed Summerville has no respect, as he detailed how the pair had a confrontation during the game before the Leeds man refused to shake hands following the final whistle.

It was this refusal that led to the handbags between the pair, with players from both teams getting involved to separate them in a mass melee on the field.

Speaking to The Yorkshire Post [18 December], Thomas revealed: “It was Summerville. I went to shake his hand and he palmed it off, so you thought there was no respect there.

“You have argy-bargy on the pitch, but you shake hands after. But he didn’t.”

Things got out of hand

Summerville was fouled just twice in the game according to Sofascore, but those were just the ones the referee picked up on. He was frequently bumped, bashed and kicked all over the pitch such was the impact of his performance, and those knocks led to frustration on his part.

Refusing to shake your opponent’s hand after the game is not in the spirit of the game, and Summerville will know that. His frustrations clearly got the better of him, and it can be difficult to remember that he is still only 22 years old.

While he’ll have to control himself better in the face of frustration and adversity going forward, it is not a moment that should be dwelled on, and the explanation from Thomas will only stoke the flames of anger towards the winger who is not that kind of player.

These incidents happen in football, players play on the edge for 90 minutes and occasionally they are pushed over it. Summerville is unlikely to make the same mistake twice, and if he does, will likely receive a similar reaction.

In other Leeds United news, Wilfried Gnonto responded directly to a transfer question.
