Johnny Giles claims promotion would be ‘huge’ during uncertain times for Leeds
Johnny Giles has claimed it would be huge for Leeds United to earn promotion back to the Premier League this season.
The Whites legend admitted that his former side are fully deserving of a spot in the top-flight next season and that people would love them back amongst the top 20 clubs in the country.
Giles believes that the passionate crowds at Elland Road are on a huge scale and would add to the Premier League massively.
Giles commented on the current enforced break in each league and claimed that the strong position that Leeds are in should leave them in a good stance.
“It would be huge for them if they did go up,” he told the Mirror.
“Whether we are going to get playing football again, we don’t know but they are in a strong position. They deserve it and there is a huge and passionate crowd. People would love to see them back in the Premier League.”
Giles is spot on, and it isn’t just the crowd behind Leeds’ bid to be back in the Premier League after nearly 20 years outside the top flight.
Looking at the crowds though, Giles certainly has a point when the numbers at Elland Road are compared to the Premier League.
Leeds have averaged 35,321 fans at each home game this season according to Transfermarkt – comparing that to the Premier League it makes for interesting reading.
That would place the Whites in 11th in the Premier League, averaging more fans than the likes of Leicester and Wolves meaning that Elland Road would make a fierce atmosphere for any visiting sides next season.
