Leeds United: BBC pundit blasts Georginio Rutter after what he did v Bristol City

Gary Owers blasted Georgino Rutter as he missed an opportunity to hand Leeds United the lead in the first half against Bristol City on Friday (2 February).

Speaking on BBC Radio Bristol on Friday (08:38pm, via BBC Sport), the pundit said it was a “poor finish” from the 21-year-old forward as he couldn’t guide the ball past Max O’Leary.

But he added that it was an “outstanding stop” from the Robins’ keeper as he prevented his side from going behind before Willy Gnonto popped up in the second half to hand the Whites a 1-0 victory at Ashton Gate.

“The shot is straight at the goalkeeper but it’s still an outstanding stop,” said Owers. “Rutter should score really, it’s a poor finish.

“How are City not behind here? Leeds have had two golden opportunities. But City haven’t really got started in this game.”

Georgino Rutter lacked cutting-edge, Willy Gnonto didn’t

It wasn’t a great effort from Rutter as he should’ve really handed Leeds a first-half lead before O’Leary pulled off an excellent save to deny him.

The Frenchman has been in fine form so far this season, but if there’s one criticism of him, it’s that he should sometimes do better in front of goal.

He is much more of a creative influence for the Whites after registering five goals and nine assists in 30 appearances for his side during this campaign.

It was a different story for Gnonto as he pounced on his chance superbly to hit a left-footed effort past the keeper just minutes into the second half.

Daniel Farke will be hoping the Italian forward, who has been linked with a move away from Elland Road over the past few weeks, can now kick on over the next few months.
