Leeds United: BBC presenter fumes amid away games revelation

John Buchan has slammed the TV broadcasters after revealing how far Leeds United fans have to travel to see away games.

Speaking on Don’t Go To Bed Just Yet, he explained the number of miles fans have to travel if they are to see every away game and detailed the “unbelievable” amount of money they have to spend as well.

He claims that in 2024 alone, fans will have travelled 2926 miles to watch their team for every game on the road if they are travelling from Elland Road.

Reacting to his clip, Buchan said: “It is nothing new, but it is an absolute disgrace the disregard shown towards fans.”

Broadcasters do not care about Leeds United fans

The indifference of broadcasters towards the plight of Leeds United fans epitomises a broader issue plaguing modern football – the prioritisation of profit over passion.

By scheduling matches without considering the logistical and financial constraints faced by supporters, broadcasters undermine the essence of the game, which should be about community, camaraderie and accessibility.

The exorbitant distances and expenses incurred by fans to attend every away game highlight how commercial interests have overshadowed the sport’s appeal.

Football seems to be losing its soul as it becomes increasingly commodified, with fans relegated to mere consumers rather than cherished stakeholders.

The disregard shown towards fans by broadcasters is not only disrespectful but also detrimental to the long-term sustainability of the sport.

It’s a credit to any Leeds fan who’s travelled to every game but this is not how things should be and the broadcasters need to get real.
