Leeds United battle Fulham to sign Genk left-back Gerardo Arteaga

Leeds United, Brighton and Fulham are showing keen interest in signing Genk left-back Gerard Arteaga, according to Marca.

The Spanish publication reported on the online edition, via live blog (6 July, 16:01), that the three Premier League clubs are “best positioned” to sign the 23-year-old defender.

The Premier League sides are following him closely but there is also interest from the likes of Salernitana, Real Betis, Villarreal, Celta Vigo and Getafe.

Highly unlikely

The report from Marca doesn’t explain whether either of the three clubs are in advanced talks over a deal or how much the Belgian club could demand.

This has been one hell of a transfer window for the Whites. They have sold Kalvin Phillips but also added players in various positions.

If they manage to keep hold of Raphinha, it would be a massive window for them.

On 6 July, Leeds have secured the signing of Tyler Adams while Luis Sinisterra is another player who is likely to make the move.

Do Leeds need another left-back?

The Mexican defender has 14 caps for his country, and the Whites probably can get him on the cheap.

Junior Firpo is the first-choice left-back while Stuart Dallas can operate in that role as well. In theory, Leeds can afford to sign another left-back.

It remains to be seen if they make any concrete attempt in the coming weeks, but the next priority should be to add a solid striker who can fight with Patrick Bamford for the starting position.

In other Leeds United news, the club have now opened talks with an ‘Incredible’ title-winning central midfielder to replace Kalvin Phillips and sign him along with Tyler Adams.
