Leeds United back in contact with Cagliari midfielder Nahitan Nandez over summer move

Leeds United have moved strongly in for the signature of Cagliari midfielder Nahitan Nandez, according to Tuttomercatoweb.

Talks between the Uruguayan and Inter Milan have hit a brick wall at the moment, and the Whites have now re-initiated contact with the Serie A outfit and his agents.

Nandez, 25, has been on Leeds radar since last summer and a move to Elland Road could be back on the cards with his chances of joining Inter all but over.

Huge boost?

There has been the feeling all summer that we need to get in another central midfielder, and yesterday’s 5-1 hiding at the hands of Manchester United exposed a major flaw in the middle of the park that needs to be sorted out as soon as possible.

Leeds simply could not cope against the Red Devils midfield, and while signing Nandez is not going to solve all our problems, having him in the line-up offers something different.

The no-nonsense box-to-box midfielder can also play on the right-wing and on the right-hand side of the defence, and such versatility is something head coach Marcelo Bielsa could do with at Elland Road.

We need to improve the quality of this squad to have a realistic chance of doing better than we did last term and break into Europe, and players like Nandez can make this team better going forward.

Bielsa is a known fan of the South American, and Leeds cannot afford to end the summer transfer window without getting in a midfielder in that mould.

It could be the difference between a top-seven and a mid-table finish.
