Auction triggered in Azzedine Ounahi update as Leeds United transfer news drops

Leeds United are currently leading the race to sign Angers midfielder Azzedine Ounahi with the French club triggering an auction for his signature, according to Ilmattino.

Napoli were said to be the favourites to sign the coveted Moroccan but have now frozen their interest giving way to Leeds United to complete a deal.

The report claims that Leeds United have made a “maxi” bid of £25m that has surpassed other teams who were in contention to sign Ounahi.

“All eyes have long been on Azzedine Ounahi, Morocco’s 22-year-old revelation in the World Cup in Qatar and star of Angers. But Napoli froze its interest after the auction triggered by the transalpine club. Giuntoli does not want to fall into the game of making a new upward offer, so Leeds with 25 million could be able to sign him,” as quoted by Ilmattino.

“Napoli has the approval of the midfielder (5 years at 1.8 million). But what is still on the high seas, or rather, continues to oscillate is the agreement with Angers which, after the World Cup, has moved a lot of intermediaries to try to raise the bar of the evaluation of the Moroccan.

“Mission that succeeded: Leeds, in fact, has surpassed everyone with a maxi offer of 25 million euros. Even better than Leicester who ran aground at 18 million euros. At the moment the deal is very far away.”

Engine room maitenance.

There’s certainly space for some engine room maintenance in the Leeds United squad and Ounahi could be the answer to Marsch’s midfield.

With Mateusz Klich leaving Elland Road for an American road trip, Adam Forshaw consistently suffering from injury problems and Sam Greenwood still not quite at the level to start week in and week out, Ounahi would be a nice addition.

Tyler Adams and Marc Roca have cemented their spots in Marsch’s side, there are no doubts about that but adding an extra fresh pair of legs wouldn’t go amiss.

Victor Orta has had a busy January so far, with deals for Max Wober and Georginio Rutter being signed and sealed already for the Whites.

And now with this fresh transfer news, it seems the Elland Road faithful will have another gem to add to their arsenal, one who looks like the real deal.

There’s no reason for Leeds United to not get this one over the line now, especially if they are in the driving seat with the bid made.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites have placed a £2.2m a year contract offer on the table for this World Cup star.
