Leeds United attacker Rodrigo wanted by Galatasaray as alternative
Turkish club Galatasaray are targeting a surprise move for Leeds United attacker Rodrigo, according to Turkish journalist Onur Ozkan.
The 31-year-old signed for the Whites in 2020 for a club-record £27million from Valencia and has gone on to play 62 times in all competitions, scoring 13 goals in the process.
His contract at Elland Road still has two years left to run but that isn’t fazing Galatasaray who have identified the 27-time Spanish international as their next best option if they don’t sign Joao Pedro from Cagliari.
“Rodrigo from Leeds United is one of the alternative names determined by the Galatasaray management, which is struggling to finish the transfer of Joao Pedro. Ozkan, who writes for Turkish media outlet Takvim, said via his personal Twitter account.
Big money only
With two years before his contract is due to fizzle out, we have no need or desire to sell Rodrigo this summer unless a whopping offer comes in that far usurps what we paid a couple of years ago.
The Spaniard was a regular feature of both Marcelo Bielsa’s and Marsch’s Leeds United side last season and his versatility allows him to play wide and through the middle (as a striker or midfielder) which is highly beneficial.
In the American’s preferred 4-2-2-2 system, he could be a rejuvenated player again as he would likely take up one of the positions just behind the strikers although he would have to battle with Brenden Aaronson and Luis Sinisterra for that privilege.
Even if he needs to play up front with Patrick Bamford, he could get the license to roam around and produce that magical moment he has often threatened to do ever since he stepped foot in Elland Road.
