Leeds United attacker Joe Gelhardt makes sacrifice to play for Marcelo Bielsa

Leeds United sensation Joe Gelhardt admits to losing eight kilos by giving up fizzy drinks.

According to The Daily Mail, the Leeds attacker, who recently burst onto the scene, has ‘The football intelligence, left foot and link-up play of his current hero, Lionel Messi.’

He’s also admitted to sacrificing having soda which in turn has equipped him for playing Marcelo Bielsa’s enduring style of football.

Gelhardt said, “I’ve had to make a few sacrifices, water instead of fizzy drinks, and I think I’ve lost eight kilos.”

Messi regen?

We’ve seen comparisons to Messi thrown around for every player who appears to have a high ceiling.

More often than not, the hype fizzles out, which is why it’s ideal to avoid putting that kind of pressure on players at an early age.

Gelhardt, who has been labelled ‘brilliant’ in the aforementioned Mail story, has some way to go before he’s even in a league close to the Argentine, but it’s good to see him start his career so well.

He’s given up fizzy drinks for water which suggests that he’s a hundred per cent committed to what Bielsa wants from his players.

The 19-year-old is seemingly trusted and liked by the Argentine who sent him on against Wolves and he ended up winning his side a late penalty.

It’s refreshing to see teenagers being so focused and willing to make such massive changes to their diet, but it will only benefit them in the long run and also the team.
