Leeds United attacker Ian Poveda in transfer tug-of-war with MLS clubs in race

Leeds United winger Ian Poveda is currently in a transfer tug of war as his immediate future looks set to be decided, according to Beren Cross.

The reliable journalist has reported that clubs from the MLS, as well as Sapin and England, are interested in taking the attacker away from Elland Road.

It is suggested that Leeds are interested in retaining the services of Poveda beyond next season, meaning that any more would likely be on loan for the 2022-23 campaign.

Writing in his latest column for Leeds Live, Cross shared the news that numerous players may not end up on the flight to Australia over the weekend.

“Ian Poveda is another member of the squad who could go out to Australia but may equally stay in the UK ahead of a prospective transfer,” he wrote. “There is interest in the winger from Major League Soccer, Spain and England.

“The 22-year-old has two years remaining on his contract and there remains an interest in retaining Poveda’s services beyond the end of any loan switch.”

Move away?

With clubs queuing up to take Poveda, we will get a big clue regarding his future this weekend.

Leeds are set to jet out to Australia this weekend and if the winger is not on any of the media content produced that is no doubt on the way, we can guess he has remained at home.

Should that happen, these clubs now come into play and it could be a race to secure his signature for the 2022-23 season, although a permanent deal cannot be ruled out 100%.

Poveda has never proved himself fully at Elland Road, but he hasn’t really been given the chance to do that with much better options ahead of him.

You have to think with one or two more years without that happening Leeds could make the choice to move him on permanently, with a guaranteed profit after he was brought in for free.

This could change quickly over the next 48 hours.
