Leeds United, Aston Villa and Brighton in transfer battle to sign Lens defender Facundo Medina

Leeds United are reportedly at the heart of a major transfer battle in order to secure the services of Lens centre-back Facundo Medina.

According to AS Roma Live [12 March], the other Premier League sides keen on securing the services of the Argentina international are Aston Villa, Brighton as well as West Ham.

It’s understood that the Ligue 1 side value the player north of £25million and a bid up to £31million will be enough to sign the 23-year-old.

Good option

At 23, Medina is highly young for a defender and should he join Leeds this summer, he could be at Elland Road for many years to come.

He is an ideal modern day centre-back as he’s adept with the ball at his feet and is accustomed to bring the ball out of defence.

Apart from his ball playing abilities, he has been labelled as an “Aggressive” player by Scouted Football as he’s assertive when it comes to his defensive duties.

He’s very good at marking his opponents and is also impressive at closing players down – something which is important given how Leeds have played in the past.

His work rate is also exemplary and the fact that he can also play as a left-back makes him all the more an option worth considering in the summer.

While £31million may be a tad steep, that’s just how negotiations begin and if Victor Orta gets to the table, he can surely knock a few million off the defender’s valuation should he want to move to Elland Road.
