Leeds United assess Glen Kamara for weeks as Rangers transfer on cards

Glen Kamara has emerged as a strong target for Leeds United, with the midfielder set to depart Rangers this summer, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

The report writes (17 July) that the 27-year-old has been looked at by Leeds for weeks with the Whites desperate to add to their midfield ranks following the confirmed departure of Marc Roca on Monday (17 July).

Kamara has fallen way down the pecking order under Michael Beale at Ibrox, who is in the middle of an extensive rebuild of his own and the Finnish international has emerged as a strong contender for Leeds as a result.

Journalist Dean Jones, formerly of Bleacher Report and Eurosport, told GIVEMESPORT reported that both Leeds United and Southampton are looking at signing him, with a few other clubs around Europe interested.

Marquee acquisition

The Whites officially announced (17 July) the departure of Spanish midfielder Marc Roca who joins Real Betis on a season-long loan move which leaves the club short of options in midfield, with Tyler Adams’ future still undecided.

Talented youngsters Darko Gyabi and Archie Gray are expected to step up to the plate, and a minimum of one signing in the transfer window looks appropriate to do.

Leeds United fans should not see Kamara’s situation at Rangers as a marker for him not being good enough to lead the midfield engine room at Elland Road because the Finnish international could represent a marquee acquisition if Daniel Farke gets this done.

With an all-action play style that blends a touch of quality with defensive steel, all the attributes are in place for this experienced stalwart to become the destructive and influential defensive midfield presence the club have been longing for since Kalvin Phillips.

Incredibly composed on the ball, possessing a tremendous range of passing and vision while also being effective out of possession, Kamara is just the tonic Farke needs to move the club forward and with Rangers desperately looking to sell this summer, the Whites may well get him on the cheap.

Superb addition if they can get this signing done.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites are chasing what could be a crucial senior appointment at Elland Road with talks now underway.
