Leeds United: Archie Gray contract update emerges from Elland Road amid exit talk

Leeds United midfielder Archie Gray could be set for a new deal that features a “bumper pay rise”, according to a report from GiveMeSport.

Gray, 18, has cemented himself as a first-team regular since making his debut in the first game of the 2023/24 season against Cardiff City, helping the Whites mount a challenge for automatic promotion back to the Premier League.

The teenager’s mature performances have reportedly attracted attention from Liverpool, who have been linked with a big-money bid by the Daily Mail.

Leeds United looking to keep Archie Gray

It is little wonder why Leeds would be looking to offer Gray an attractive new contract.

The 18-year-old central midfielder has been used out of position at right-back for the majority of the campaign and yet has hardly put a foot wrong – an even more impressive achievement when considering it is his first season of senior football.

Reported interest from Liverpool is unsurprising given the nature of Gray’s performances and a pay rise would go some way towards convincing the teenager to remain at Elland Road and continue his development rather than moving elsewhere.

It is also in Leeds’ best interests to continue developing Gray as an asset.

Fans would, of course, prefer to see the midfielder remain at the club, but the possibility of an eventual departure for a player so talented must be considered and, should that eventuality come to pass, the Whites will be keen to recoup the largest fee possible – and allowing Gray to mature and develop further will surely only increase his value.

In other Leeds United news, a pundit has labelled the Whites’ recent performances “nervy” and “unconvincing”.
