Leeds United: Andrea Radrizzani eyes Sampdoria takeover, advanced talks held

Andrea Radrizzani is considering a bid for Serie A club Sampdoria as he prepares to relinquish power at Leeds United, according to Italian newspaper, II Secolo.

II Secolo claim on Tuesday 16 May (pg 43, print edition) that Radrizzani has been paying attention to the Italian side. It’s understood time is against him, with there just 13 days before the next shareholders meeting. It’s believed Sampdoria are valued at £35million.

Italian businessman, Alessandro Barnaba, is also looking to buy the Serie A club and is most advanced in negotiations.

Radrizzani is set give up his controlling stake at Elland Road, with the 49ers set to pay £150million if the club are relegated or £420million if they remain in the Premier League.

Uncertainty

Radrizzani will know where he stands on the takeover front in just a number of weeks. The uncertainty around the club’s league status has made planning ahead extremely difficult.

Radrizzani clearly wants to stay involved in football, but he just doesn’t have the finances to take Leeds to the next level.

Potentially staying put and looking to bounce Leeds straight back into the Premier League could well be an option for the Italian. It would give him the best chance of recouping what he feels is the true value of the club.

All eyes will be on the London Stadium on Sunday. There’s a genuine opportunity for Leeds to put themselves in an excellent position heading into the final-day clash against Tottenham.

West Ham could look to rest some of their key men with a potential European final on the horizon. With Leicester all now in real trouble, it feels as if one of Leeds or Everton will join the Foxes in the Championship.
