Leeds United and Leicester City ‘rivalry’ examined in newspaper column
Leeds United and Leicester City’s newfound “rivalry” has come under the microscope after what Leicester’s players did earlier this week, according to Neil Moxley.
The Sunday Mirror journalist said footage of the Foxes squad singing ‘Leeds are falling apart again’ at their end-of-season awards shows that there’s no love lost between the two teams.
Leeds are a club who divide opinion, to say the least, and Leicester have become the latest club to build a long-distance rivalry with the Whites after the pair’s battle for promotion came to a head in recent weeks.
Writing in the Sunday People, (5 May, page 56), Moxley questioned: “What is with Leeds United that rubs fans up the wrong way?”
Calling back to historic rivalries against clubs like Chelsea and Derby County, he said: “Now they can add Leicester City to that list. At the Foxes’ dinner this week, the awards were handed out to a chorus of ‘Leeds are falling apart again’.”
Leeds limp over the line as Leicester finish with a flourish
Leeds and Leicester’s supposed ‘rivalry’ has only emerged in recent weeks, well over two months after the Whites defeated the Championship leaders 3-1 at Elland Road.
That was the second victory Daniel Farke’s side produced over Leicester this season, also winning 1-0 at the King Power Stadium in November, but despite home and away victories over both the Foxes and Ipswich Town, those two sides have beaten Leeds to automatic promotion.

In their final six matches of the regular season, the Whites have collected just four points, winning once and losing four times to end an incredibly strong campaign in the weakest possible way.
So, as Leicester enjoy an earlier end to the season and begin preparations for their immediate Premier League return, Leeds must navigate the play-offs, with a two-legged semi-final against Norwich City coming up.
The Elland Road faithful may feel that Leicester singing about their club during an unrelated dinner is the clearest sign of a one-sided rivalry, but no fan can deny that as when the final hurdle approached, Leeds very much did fall apart – again.
In other Leeds news, Richard Keys and Andy Gray reacted immediately after the Whites failed to secure automatic promotion.
