Leeds United and Juventus intensify talks into hot hours for Weston McKennie

Leeds United and Juventus are entering the “hot hours” of negotiations for the possible transfer of midfield maestro Weston McKennie, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano reported on 25 January that personal terms between McKennie and Leeds United have already been agreed upon.

Now, Gazzetta dello Sport claims that the intermediaries are discussing the fee alongside the formula of how the deal will be paid.

“Juve and Leeds negotiating McKennie’s move to the Premier League,” as quoted by Gazzetta dello Sport. (26 January)

“These are hot hours: with the player now leaving and the intermediaries at work to get the clubs to agree, after having convinced the player to transfer.

“We are still talking about the amount but also about the formula: because – discussing on the basis of the loan to facilitate payment – Juve really don’t want to know how to condition the redemption obligation on a certain number of appearances which would keep the operation pending until achievement of the fixed quota.

“Also because the bianconeri, in the meantime, could reinvest part of the sum collected.”

Matter of time.

This transfer story seems like a matter of when rather than if now and it’s looking increasingly likely that Leeds United will get another American onboard at Elland Road.

It will be interesting to see what role McKennie plays in this Leeds United setup and just how Jesse Marsch will utilise him alongside his compatriot Tyler Adams.

One thing that is for sure, is that the pairings classy showings in the engine room at the FIFA World Cup bode well for their success together in West Yorkshire.

And when you put that alongside the resume McKennie brings with him to the Whites, it looks like this will be a fairly good deal for all parties involved.

The American maestro undoubtedly improves Leeds’ engine room and further adds to the squad’s depth, something that has been drastically improved in January.

Victor Orta and co have done a fine job of things so far this month and the signing of McKennie would be the icing on the cake to an extremely successful transfer window.
