Leeds United, Ipswich Town final Championship positions predicted by supercomputer
Leeds United are now strong favourites to finish above Ipswich Town and earn an instant return to the Premier League.
That is according to Opta Analyst, who shared their latest projections on Monday (11 March) following an eventful weekend of action.
United kicked things off with a 2-0 win away at Yorkshire rivals Sheffield Wednesday thanks to goals from Patrick Bamford and Willy Gnonto.
Leicester City remain Championship title favourites
An 11th win in 12 Championship games this season moved Leeds back into second place behind Leicester City.
Ipswich looked set to climb back into the automatic promotion zone when finding a breakthrough in their meeting with Cardiff City the next day.
However, the Bluebirds scored two goals in a dramatic period of additional time to snatch a welcome victory from Leeds’ perspective.
As a result of that, Leeds now have a 75.6-per-cent chance of finishing in the top two, compared to a 21.6 per cent at the end of December.
Leeds United’s remarkable turnaround in 2024
At the end of 2023, meanwhile, the Whites were given a 1.5-per-cent likelihood of wining the Championship. That now stands at 28.6 per cent.
As for Ipswich, they now have ‘just’ a 25.5-per-cent chance of finishing in the top two, showing just how big one unexpected result could be.

Southampton have put a disappointing run behind them with successive wins, and they have a 7.3-per-cent chance of finishing in first or second.
Ultimately, this can all change in the space of one or two results, but the bottom line remains the same.
With nine games of the Championship campaign to go, automatic promotion is Leeds United’s for the taking.
