Brighton have joined Leeds United in the race to sign Los Angeles FC midfielder Jose Cifuentes this summer.

According to Ecuadorian media outlet Radio Diblu FM, the 23-year-old has emerged as a target for the Premier League duo.

Jeunes Footeux reported that he is one of the best players in the MLS and that the Whites have been tracking him, along with Leicester and Napoli.

Via Twitter, Radio Diblu FM shared, “Europe is chasing him. European teams are interested in the Ecuadorian José Cifuentes, who plays in the MLS. The clubs that they have in their sights at the wheel would be Leeds United and Brighton.”

Move along

This isn’t the first time this summer in which Leeds and Brighton are competing for a player.

According to The Athletic, both teams were keen on signing RB Salzburg midfielder Mohamed Camara and the Seagulls were said to be leading the chase.

However, they did not end up getting him either and have now turned their attention to the Ecuador international.

Leeds have already signed two midfielders this summer and another attacking midfielder in Brenden Aaronson this summer.

Even if Mateusz Klich ends up leaving, they’ve got plenty of options in the middle of the park and are currently looking to sign a left-back and striker.

They cannot afford to spend more money on signing a player who is unlikely to be a regular when there are pressing issues elsewhere.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites now have a clear run to sign a £20m-rated left-back as their Premier League rivals have now bowed out of the race.
