Leeds United analyst Will Alonso to stay despite Marcelo Bielsa exit

The sacking of Marcelo Bielsa at the end of February saw big change take place at Leeds United with a number of backroom staff following him out the door.

But not every staff member brought in by the Argentine has quit the club as a result of his exit.

Head of Analysis at Elland Road Willy Alonso has moved to confirm his commitment to the football club with new manager Jesse Marsch at the helm.

“I am an employee of the club and my contract is not linked to the manager that Leeds has,” Alonso said in an interview with Faro De Vigo.

“I have two years signed with them that will be fulfilled, of course.”

When asked about new boss Marsch, he said, “The first thing to say is that he comes from the first level and reaping great successes in his track record.

“Without a doubt, the Premier League is the most demanding of all, but the knowledge and experience that he brings will help him in this final stretch of the championship.”

Critical

In a world full of technology and detail, the head analyst is one of the most underrated roles at any club in the world.

They are often the difference between victory and defeat and at a time when every point matters, Alonso might even keep the Whites up.

Should Leeds remain in the Premier League, Marsch and the players will probably receive the vast majority of the praise but the staff behind the scenes need some recognition too.

Any good head coach will say that his job is made easier by the hard work of the other staff members and players should be quick to praise them too given how much they sacrifice for them.

Alonso’s show of commitment to the club says a lot about those already in place at Throp Arch as the rest of Bielsa’s crew have left one by one.

In other Leeds United news, an out on-loan midfielder has suffered a setback in his injury recovery because of faulty equipment in hospital.
