Leeds United ‘all over the place’ as BBC pundit shares ‘massive’ Daniel Farke verdict

Jobi McAnuff has insisted Daniel Farke has a “massive” job to do if Leeds United want to earn promotion to the Premier League this season.

The BBC Sport pundit slammed the team for being “all over the place” in recent weeks, claiming the playoffs will be made more difficult by having been so close to an automatic promotion place.

While nothing is confirmed yet, Leeds will need to beat Southampton and hope Ipswich lose against Huddersfield on the final day to gain automatic promotion, which looks unlikely.

Speaking on the BBC Football Daily podcast [1 May], McAnuff shared: “It’s going to be tough for Leeds, having been so close after that run they put together from the start of the year, you thought it would be them to get that second place.

“They’re just so up and down at the minute. In the 4-0 against QPP, they were all over the place. Daniel Farke has got a massive job, if they don’t get in that top two, to get them going for the playoffs.”

Daniel Farke verdict emerges ahead of Leeds United promotion push

McAnuff’s insistence that the club could struggle in the playoffs comes as no surprise given their history in the competition, and it has also been seen several times in the past that the most in-form side wins the tournament rather than the highest finisher.

Norwich have been tipped as early favourites given their run of form which has put them into fifth place, but if Farke can lead his side to victory against Southampton on the final day, their momentum and confidence may return.

Farke has been widely praised for Leeds’ turn of fortune since the new year as they led an unexpected charge to close down runaways Leicester and Ipswich, but with just one win in their last five games, pressure will begin to mount.

It looks as if the manager will keep his job even if Leeds fail to achieve their key target of getting promoted this season, as 49ers Enterprises have already held meetings about possible transfer targets to strengthen his squad.
