Leeds United: Alan Shearer hails important Premier League win over Southampton
BBC Sport pundit Alan Shearer has hailed the “important” Leeds United win over Southampton on Saturday afternoon in the Premier League.
Shearer believed a win was vital for the Whites to build some confidence under new boss Javi Gracia but admitted Saints keeper Gavin Bazuna will be disappointed that he let the winning goal in.
Junior Firpo was the man who grabbed that very goal for Leeds United, one which saw the Whites lifted out of the relegation zone.

“For Leeds at home, the manager’s first game, it was important to get off to a good start,” Shearer told Premier League Productions as quoted by Leeds Live. (27 February)
“To try and generate some confidence for them.
“I don’t think the keeper will be too pleased when he sees this one back. I know it takes a little deflection and the defender might be in his way.”

Early days.
It’s still early days for Gracia in West Yorkshire but the signs are positive that he will be able to do a decent job for Leeds United moving forward.
Getting the win over relegation rivals Southampton was absolutely critical and now that the Whites have got that out of the way they need to string some wins together.
It was the Whites’ first league win since the 6 November, which is crazy when you think about it and hopefully, Gracia can provide more in the coming months.
It won’t be easy for the Spaniard however, with crucial clashes against Chelsea, Brighton and Arsenal on the horizon for the Elland Road outfit.
Getting fans back on board with the project will be a tough ask after recent events, nevertheless, Gracia will need to do just that if he stands any chance of remaining at the club past this season.
Things are starting to look slightly brighter at Leeds United.
