Leeds United: Alan Brazil reacts as he’s told live on air about Connor Roberts deal at Elland Road

Alan Brazil shared his reaction live on TalkSPORT after Alex Crook revealed that Leeds United are closing in on the signing of Burnley right-back Connor Roberts.

Crook reported via his personal X account on Thursday (1 February) that the Whites are on the verge of the Deadline Day signature of the Welshman with talks underway between the two parties.

The right-back has made 16 appearances in all competitions this season for Burnley, 14 of which have come in the Premier League but has been resigned to a bit-part role under Vincent Kompany in comparison to last season.

And Crook shared live on air (1 February, 9:20am) that the deal is now close between the two parties, for which Brazil shared his delight at the news.

Crook stated: “Connor Roberts from Burnley to Leeds, while we’re talking about the Championship. That one should go through.”

Brazil responded saying: “Nice one.”

Brilliant

There is quite clearly a need at Elland Road for a new right-back to come in after what has happened this month, and Roberts could be a brilliant bit of business.

The 28-year-old is an experienced and incredibly capable individual and it seems he won’t mind a step-down to the Championship to get some game time again and Leeds United must jump at the chance right now.

Roberts knows what it takes to win promotion from the Championship having won the league with the Clarets last season and that knowledge could well be incredibly useful for a young Leeds United team.

Farke seems to be keen on using Archie Gray as his first-choice right-back for this campaign – to great effect – and with Sam Byram the first-choice left-back and Jamie Shackleton a midfielder, options are slim for the second half of the season.

Roberts knows the division well having been promoted with Burnley just last season, and is in the prime of his career making a potential transfer a no-brainer.

Leeds United

He hasn’t played much this season so may need time to get sharpness and fitness back, but Farke will be getting an experienced professional into the squad in a time of need.

Tremendous acquisition if they can get this done.

In other Leeds United news, Phil Hay has shared whether Farke is about to cancel another loan deal early.
