Leeds United: Alan Brazil and Ally McCoist fume at Patrick Bamford after draw v Sunderland

Alan Brazil has told Patrick Bamford he needs to find his scoring touch if he wants to help the promotion push after Leeds United drew 0-0 with Sunderland at Elland Road.

Ally McCoist, meanwhile, insisted the race for promotion was too tough to call given the inconsistent results from those at the top, although he admitted he fancies Ipswich to go up.

With just one point now separating the top three teams after Leeds’ draw and Leicester’s loss to Millwall, Ipswich have the chance to move two points ahead if they can beat Watford.

Speaking live on talkSPORT [06:52], Brazil shared: “That was a big, big upset I think. They’ve clung on to top spot after Leeds managed a goalless draw with Sunderland.

“Leeds are struggling, it’s the goals. Bamford has got to find his scoring touch, he’s got to find it. It’s really tight, isn’t it? It’ll go down to the last game of the season and you don’t want to be in the playoffs, by the way.”

McCoist then insisted: “I think it’s tough to call. I fancy Ipswich, but I’ve got to be brutally honest with you, I don’t know. Leicester can’t go a week without getting beat, no chance are Southampton getting automatic promotion now.”

Patrick Bamford slammed amid Leeds United promotion race

Bamford has been relied upon as Leeds’ main number nine in recent weeks after his impressive run of form during the Christmas period, but having gone five games without a goal, he could now be costing Leeds their opportunity.

A 0-0 draw at Elland Road is far from the end of the world for Leeds, but coming on a day when Leicester also lost will be an added source of frustration, and the strikers need to step up to provide the goals once more.

At this stage of the season, it almost seems like none of the top three teams actually want to get promoted. All three of Leeds, Leicester and Ipswich have dropped points despite expectations, throwing the picture into chaos.

One of the three will have to end up in the playoffs, a fate Brazil warned against and for good reason as the supporters at Elland Road will not have fond memories of their attempts at playoff glory in recent times.
