Leeds United agree to follow through on threats against Everton amid crisis at Goodison Park

Leeds United have confirmed their intention to sue Everton for a total of £300m after the Toffees were found guilty of breaching financial fair play rules, according to the Daily Mail.

The UK news outlet, reporting on 17 November shared that senior figures at Leeds, Burnley and Leicester City have held talks this afternoon to reaffirm their plans to sue Everton after the Premier League confirmed their ten-point deduction and guilty verdict on Friday afternoon (BBC Sport, 17 November).

The three clubs are believed to have agreed to follow through on their threat to sue which was first formulated over the summer after Everton narrowly avoided relegation from the Premier League.

Leeds and Leicester were relegated to the Championship and Burnley lent their support as all three clubs remain convinced that Everton’s spending breached FFP rules the previous season when they were relegated.

Injustice

Leeds United certainly feel a sense of injustice after their relegation to the Premier League and Everton narrowly avoiding it and it seems now they are following through on their threat to further compound Everton’s misery after the ten-point deduction development.

Had Everton faced any sort of points deduction last season, Leeds would have stayed in the Premier League and the financial gain that a team is rewarded with for being a part of England’s top-flight is a huge amount of money for the Whites to have missed out on.

It’s not only them but Leicester City too, who many believe should not be a club in the Championship right now given their progress in the English top flight before last season.

Both clubs coupled with Burnley are certain that Everton breached financial fair play and are intent on seeing them punished even despite the fact that the Blues are sticking to their innocence.

The three clubs have repeatedly expressed unhappiness that the Everton case was not dealt with last season and are understood to feel even more strongly following the guilty verdict, as a points deduction in the previous campaign would have relegated them.

This £300m development will take on greater significance should the Whites fail to secure promotion at the end of the season. Imagine the scenes then.
