Leeds United ace thanks supporters as image shared from hospital bed

Leeds United youngster Diogo Monteiro has shared a social media update thanking supporters from his hospital bed.

The 19-year-old defender has undergone surgery on a shoulder injury and will soon begin the next stage of rehabilitation, sharing his gratitude for the support on his Instagram page [1 October].

Monteiro signed in 2023 from Swiss outfit Servette and has appeared regularly for the Under-21 side, even donning the captain’s armband.

Leeds United could soon turn to youth

Leeds United are relying on dipping into their young teams to fill their bench at the moment, with Daniel Farke working with a rather small first-team squad.

Injuries have also taken effect with Dan James, Manor Solomon, Ethan Ampadu and Ilia Gruev all suffering, and Monteiro will cut a frustrated figure that he is not fit to be pushing for his own spot in first-team recognition.

James Debayo is currently the young defender who is usually picked by Farke for the senior side’s substitute options following an encouraging pre-season.

The Swiss-born Portuguese youth international will now begin to recuperate from his surgery and aim to be back as soon as possible.

It doubtless remains an exciting future at Thorp Arch for the teenage starlet in his aims to represent the Whites in their push for the Premier League.
