Leeds United ace Patrick Bamford will be fuming after official FA Cup announcement
It has been a frustrating end to the season for Leeds United ace Patrick Bamford.
Injury ruled the Whites striker out of the last few weeks of the Championship season, meaning he was absent for the playoff run including the final defeat to Southampton at Wembley last Sunday (26 May).
And Bamford’s mood will hardly have been improved by an official FA Cup announcement made on Friday (30).
On the competition’s official X account, it was confirmed that Manchester United forward Amad Diallo had won Goal of the FA Cup season for his breakaway finish in the Red Devils’ dramatic victory over Liverpool in the quarter-finals at Old Trafford.
Leeds United ace Patrick Bamford misses out on Goal of the FA Cup award
It was a bit of a slap in the face to Bamford, who scored an absolute worldie of a volley in Leeds’ third-round win over Peterborough United back in January.
Speaking objectively, Diallo’s was undoubtedly a dramatic goal given the context of the fixture between two teams that despise each other.
But it was an absolute slap in the face for Bamford, who most would surely agree was the worthy winner of the award given the difficulty of the technique and the expertise of the finish.
Obviously, in the grand scheme thing it will mean little in comparison to the disappointment of missing out promotion back to the Premier League.
However, his excellent moment should have been acknowledged and there was a lot on social media asking how Bamford had failed to win the award.
Who knows, maybe had can have another crack at it next season?
