Leeds United ace Mateo Joseph in pole position to win major call-up

Leeds United star Mateo Joseph could be called up to the senior Spain squad for the 2026 World Cup if he maintains his recent form, according to AS.

The Spanish newspaper reported on 8 September (page 3) that the men’s national team has “a problem in attack”, which the Whites’ star could solve.

Luis De la Fuente is said to be “keeping a close eye” on the 20-year-old with the manager looking for a striker to add to his squad ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

The Leeds youngster is in competition with Samu Omorodion and Abel Ruiz for a role in the squad so has to maintain his form to earn that spot in the squad.

Daniel Farke has put his faith in the youngster and so far that has been repaid with an excellent start to the campaign for club and country.

This has seen the forward score one and assist two goals in four starts for the Whites in a superb opening to the season [FotMob].

Joseph has displaced the likes of Joel Piroe and Patrick Bamford in the starting XI as the main number nine at Elland Road.

This club form has seen him also become a regular for the Spanish U21 national team in a squad which boasts some top talents.

It would certainly be a testament to the youngster to earn himself a spot in the senior side for the work he has put in under Farke in recent months.

There is so much to like about Joseph and his ability and having him in a senior international squad would be great for supporters to see.
