Leeds United ace Illan Meslier shares ‘tough’ Bristol City admission after 0-0 stalemate
Illan Meslier admits the Championship clash between Leeds United and Bristol City on 26 October was a “tough” game to be a part of.
The Whites were away from home and the game ended up finishing as a 0-0 stalemate with Leeds keeping their third-place position in the table and ending up five points adrift of league leaders, Sunderland.
Speaking to LUTV on 27 October, Meslier shared his verdict on the Robins’ defensive style throughout the game.
“It’s a tough place to come and to beat [Bristol City],” Meslier said.
“It’s a point, a clean sheet of course we hoped we could do better, especially in front of the goal but it was a solid performance against a strong and solid team.”
Later in the interview, Meslier was asked about whether he felt Leeds could have won it in the last 15 minutes.
“Yeah, in a place like this you never know, we all try to find the player in the free space so we just tried to move their block, it was not easy because they play pretty deep you know, they park the bus but it’s not the first team we’ve faced that play like this.
“We have to get used to it because it will happen again for sure but it’s a good challenge to be honest because we like the challenge and we keep going.”
Leeds United need to get back to winning ways in the Championship
In their last five Championship games, the Whites have only managed to come away with all three points twice.
While the club may find themselves on a decent unbeaten streak at the moment, it still feels like their win ratio could be higher.
Leeds have one of, if not the best teams in the Championship and should easily be outclassing opponents such as Bristol City.
There have been some performances this term where Daniel Farke’s men have looked like genuine title contenders but then a performance like this comes along and everything gets set back to zero.
Many of Leeds’ players have been in solid form this season but Saturday’s game against Bristol felt like everyone was off pace aside from Sam Byram.
Things need to pick up against Plymouth Argyle next week and the Whites need to be far less wasteful in the final third otherwise they could start to lose their grasp on the battle for the Championship title.
