Leeds United ace Ethan Ampadu wows in pre-season win v Hearts with ‘composed’ display

Leeds United midfielder Ethan Ampadu was “controlled, composed and efficient” in the 1-0 win against Hearts, according to journalist Graham Smyth.

The West Yorkshire outfit defeated the Scottish Premiership club at Tynecastle in their final pre-season friendly of the summer.

And summer signing Ampadu impressed Smyth with his display, starting the match before being substituted in the 78th-minute.

“Didn’t have to get out of first gear all afternoon,” Smyth wrote for the Yorkshire Evening Post as he rated the midfielder’s display eight out of 10.

“Controlled, composed and efficient.”

Leeds were in desperate need of new midfield talent following the exits of Marc Roca and Weston McKennie, with the former joining Real Betis on loan for the season and the latter returning to Juventus following his loan spell at Elland Road.

Fortunately, a top talent in Wales international Ampadu was found and quickly brought to the West Yorkshire club from Premier League giants Chelsea.

The midfielder hasn’t had much time at his new club, but he looks to have settled in well as the new season rapidly approaches.

Given his Premier League experience, as well as Bundesliga and Serie A experience from loans during his time at Chelsea, Ampadu looks set to play a key role under Daniel Farke next season.

His versatility will also be hugely beneficial for his new manager, with Ampadu certain to be one of the first names on the Leeds team sheet under the German.

In other Leeds United news, Sam Allardyce has shared what must “change dramatically” for the Whites to be promoted next season.
