Leeds United ace Ethan Ampadu sends ‘knuckle down’ message to teammate Joe Rodon

Leeds United loanee Joe Rodon must now “knuckle down” after having “settled in well” at Elland Road, according to teammate Ethan Ampadu.

Both Rodon and Ampadu made the switch from Premier League clubs to Leeds during the summer transfer window. Ampadu joined the Whites on a permanent basis from Chelsea before Rodon arrived on loan from Tottenham.

The pair of Wales internationals have made bright starts to their time at the club, even though results haven’t been going the way of Daniel Farke’s side. And Ampadu has sent some advice to his international teammate, who he rates very highly.

Leeds United

“We both know how loans go. You do that to get game time and he has settled in well. I don’t think I have to say, if you watch his football, especially with it being a new group, he has done well and everyone is pleased with how each other has done, to be honest,” Ampadu told West Yorkshire Sport Daily, via BBC Sounds (5 September).

“It’ll be good for him to settle down, knuckle down and play week in, week out. I don’t need to tell you about Joe [Rodon’s] qualities, I think everyone knows it already.”

Chemistry

These two singings represent very exciting additions to the squad at Elland Road, and supporters will be hopeful that as the season progresses their quality can continue to shine through and help the club to fight higher up the Championship table.

Ampadu and Rodon both have experience of top flight and international football and are more than capable of performing well in England’s second division. Their time playing together internationally will also help due to the understanding they already have of one another.

Leeds United

It is clear from Ampadu’s comments that he has plenty of belief in Rodon and backs him to perform to a high level at Leeds, even if his stay is only temporary. A solid defensive line has been something the club has lacked in recent seasons and both these men can certainly help them to achieve it.

If Rodon turns out to be as good as Ampadu hopes, supporters might be in danger of falling for the old cliche, ‘never fall in love with a loan player’.

In other Leeds United news, one player did everything possible to leave the club during the summer.
