Leeds United youngster Crysencio Summerville has been hit with a £220 fine after being caught speeding on the A1(M), the Yorkshire Post reports.

The 21-year-old broke the speed limit last August and was summoned to answer the charge by Harrogate Magistrates Court earlier this week.

Along with the fine, the Leeds and Netherlands Under-21 attacker was handed three points on his licence for the offence.

“The 21-year-old Dutch forward was caught exceeding the speed limit in his Mercedes on the A1(M) at Ingmanthorpe, near Wetherby, on August 19 last year,” reported the Yorkshire Post.

“He was summoned to answer the charge by Harrogate Magistrates Court this week, but was not required to appear in person.

“The court handed Summerville, of Ackworth, Pontefract, three points on his licence and ordered him to pay a £220 fine, costs of £90 and a victim surcharge of £88.”

Learning experience

Summerville certainly isn’t the first Premier League footballer to be in trouble with the law for speeding, and he won’t be the last, but that does not excuse the player for his reckless actions.

At 21, the youngster will be able to take this experience on board and not repeat the offence in the future.

He certainly has a bright career ahead, and it would be silly to let headlines like the one above get in his way of shining for Leeds and for his nation in the years to come.

Summerville will hopefully feel remorse for his actions, with the youngster having just made the headlines in a positive manner by scoring for the Netherlands Under-21s in their 3-0 friendly victory over Norway Under-21s on Saturday (25 March).

The Leeds attacker has four goals and two assists from his 20 Premier League matches this season, and could be a key player - either from the start or from the bench - under manager Javi Gracia in the club’s fight for survival.
