Leeds United have accepted that a move away from Elland Road is the “most likely outcome” for Kalvin Phillips despite upcoming contract talks, according to 90min.
The football news website reported on Wednesday [25 May] that the Leeds hierarchy are preparing for life without some of their biggest assets.
It was also reported that the decision makers at Elland Road have accepted a move away from the club is the most likely outcome for midfielder Phillips.
Phillips is set to hold contract talks with the club in the coming weeks.
Good move from Leeds
Planning for life without Phillips and Raphinha is a smart move from the club hierarchy.
They are aware that there is a good chance that Leeds will lose their services this summer and it is a smart move to plan for their departures.
It will allow Jesse Marsch to plan and reinvest the money properly, rather than rushing to replace their main men at the end of the window.
Leeds will be able to recoup a large amount of money for both players which can be used to strengthen other areas of their squad.
In regards to Phillips, the midfielder still has two years on his Elland Road contract which will allow the Whites to maximise the fee they could potentially get for him this summer.
It is a shame that both players don’t want to stay at Elland Road and build on their Premier League survival.
However, both are nearing or in the prime of their careers and will want to play at the highest level they can in the coming years and sadly for them, that won’t happen at Elland Road.
