Leeds United: Aaron Dagger quits to join Mark Jackson at MK Dons

Leeds United have confirmed the news that Aaron Dagger has left the club to link up with Mark Jackson and his new role at MK Dons this week.

The Whites confirmed the news on Monday 26 December, with the first-team performance analyst leaving Thorp Arch behind for the joys of League One football.

Jesse Marsch is now down two key members of staff it seems at Thorp Arch, with new appointments certainly needed moving forward.

Writing in a statement as shared on their official website, Leeds shared the news with their well wishes also sent along to Dagger as he moves on.

“The 32-year-old heads to Stadium MK to work with Mark Jackson, who departed the Whites last week, taking up the vacant head coach role at the Sky Bet League One side,” they wrote.

“Dagger worked alongside Jackson with the Under-23s at Thorp Arch before then stepping up into a first team role when Jesse Marsch was appointed head coach, in February 2022.

“We would like to thank Aaron for all his hard work and effort whilst with Leeds United and we wish him well in the future.”

Problem.

You see these kinds of developments all of the time in football.

Coaches who get their first chance to go into senior management rarely have a backroom team so they raid their former clubs and take those who they have worked closely with.

Dagger appears to be one of those, and Marsch will no doubt be disappointed with his decision.

The American was the one to promote him to the first team set up after his arrival, no doubt under the influence of Jackson, who also made that same step.

Now it leaves Leeds looking for two more members of staff at a critical time of the season with the Premier League on the verge of returning this week for the Whites.

Leeds don’t tend to mess around with this kind of thing, with Rene Maric and Michael Skubala arriving in recent months, with more now needed.

This is certainly one to keep a close eye on though, with the possibility that even more follow Jackson out of the back door at Thorp Arch – we hope not.
