Leeds United £35m hit on cards as Elland Road transfer twist emerges
Brenden Aaronson and Marc Roca seem to be closing in on their Leeds United exits – and it’s fair to say both players have been largely disappointing additions.
Aaronson joined the Whites with an extremely big reputation. A 22-year-old American international, what was there not to like?
However, apart from his electric start to the season, which included an excellent performance against Chelsea, it was a campaign to forget for the attacking midifielder – who was also condemned to the bench during the USA’s World Cup run in Qatar.

Roca probably didn’t arrive with the same level of hype. The Spaniard produced some decent performances but saw his form dramatically fall off towards the back end of the season. He certainly doesn’t exude the characteristics that are needed to be a successful Championship player.
Now, it appears both players are edging towards the exit door.
The Daily Mail reported on 26 June that Fulham are interested in signing Aaronson on loan. It’s believed the 22-year-old has a relegation clause in his contract and this could lead to a summer departure.

Aaronson signed for the Whites for £25million (Sky Sports) last summer. It’s safe to say that’s an investment that hasn’t worked out at all.
Mundo Deportivo reported on 12 June that Roca is also very close to joining Real Betis on a temporary basis next season. Having signed a four-year deal and signed for £10million last summer (Sky Sports), it’s another move that hasn’t worked out at all.
Hopefully, during the 2023 window, smarter footballing decisions can be made. There was far too much faith placed in Victor Orta. It has proved to be an expensive error. £35million currently looks like it’s going down the train.
