Leeds United £30m price for Jack Harrison too much for Newcastle United

Leeds United have managed to price Newcastle United out of a move for winger Jack Harrison in this summer transfer window, according to The Telegraph.

The Magpies had been interested in the Englishman along with Tottenham Hotspur [Daily Mail] but the £30million that the Whites are asking for is too much for Eddie Howe’s summer budget.

Despite the Toon’s vastly rich Saudi Arabian owners, they are unwilling to go overboard from the off in the transfer market, handing the manager a budget of around £80-100million.

£30million would still be more than triple what Leeds paid for the 25-year-old from ManchesterCity but they are unwilling to lower that asking price.

Newcastle have also been priced out of moves for Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin – £60million – and Brentford’s Ivan Toney – £50million.

Crucial

Harrison may not be our most impressive or standout winger but he is far more important to Jesse Marsch’s side than a lot of people realise.

He is surprisingly versatile in playing on both sides as well as through the middle if needed, which he was plenty of times in the 2021-22 season, which is a trait not many players possess.

With Raphinha also potentially on his way out due to widespread reports that Barcelona want to bring him to the Nou Camp, Marsch needs the rest of his wingers to not only stay at Elland Road but also step up to the plate should the Brazilian leave.

The American is already adding more and more fresh faces to his squad but he could still do with the majority of his regulars sticking around.

There is a lot to do in the transfer market if he is to properly transform this team into a Premier League outfit rather than a Championship side clinging on for dear life.

In other Leeds United news, Marsch is looking to sign another right-back having just purchased Rasmus Kristensen from RB Salzburg.
