Phil Hay shares ‘angry’ Daniel Farke reaction to Leeds United v Middlesbrough
Daniel Farke was both “pleased and angry” at half-time of the thrilling Championship contest between Leeds United and Middlesbrough, according to Phil Hay.
Leeds trailed to am Emmanuel Latte Lath strike inside three minutes of Saturday’s (2 December) match at Elland Road, before Daniel James, Crysencio Summerville and Joel Piroe turned the game on its head.
Lath pulled one back before the interval to give Boro some hope at the end of a five-goal first-half, but United – boosted by a red card to Anfernee Dijksteel – ultimately saw out a 3-2 win.
Providing an update from Farke’s post-match press conference on Twitter [2 December], The Athletic reporter Hay posted: “Farke said he was pleased and angry at half-time.”
Farke went on to say: “I could see why sometimes we were driven by our emotion. We played with too many transition moments – but it’s also a side of my team that I love, rather than playing like football with sleeping pills.”
First-half thriller
This was yet another highly entertaining Leeds match, which the Whites ultimately did enough to see through for yet another victory.
Farke will be disappointed with Illan Meslier’s goalkeeping for the first of Lath’s goals, and likewise for the defending for the striker’s second.
However, his side showed great quality in attack for their first two goals, with James and Summerville netting in the space of two minutes of each other.

Summerville then showed more good play to win the penalty that Piroe converted, seemingly putting Leeds in complete command on home soil.
Lath had other ideas, and this game could have ended another way on a different day, but thankfully Farke’s men saw the job through.
This Leeds side is by no means perfect – the lack of clean sheets tells you all you need to know – but that is now six wins and a draw from their past seven matches.
If nothing else, the Whites will keep supporters hugely entertained in this hot pursuit of Ipswich Town.
