Leeds 19y/o signs new deal until 2023, surely set for more game-time this season
Very good Davis!
We’re a long way away from professional footballers needing catchphrases to succeed, but if that time ever comes, Leif Davis has Marcelo Bielsa to thank.
He can also thank him for the vote of confidence, as the 19-year-old signed a new contract that will keep him at Elland Road until 2023.
That news was announced on Monday evening and came hot on the heels of a new four-and-a-half-year deal for Mateusz Klich.
Leeds celebrated by posting the clip of Bielsa bellowing “Very good Davis!” from the sidelines during pre-season.
But it’s not just this brilliant viral clip that has endeared Davis to the Leeds fans. Although there’s now a race to get the first shout in when the youngster comes onto the pitch.
There are plenty of fans who think Davis is the future at left-back and some who think his time is now.
Putting him as the number one in that position ahead of Ezgjan Alioski and Barry Douglas might be wishful thinking and more a critique of other players, but Davis is an honest hard-working player.
His recent cameos have shown him playing full of confidence and applying himself equally in attack and in defence, and he’s fast becoming this season’s breakthrough player.
It’s another good bit of business for Leeds United who have already signed extensions with Klich, Luke Ayling, Liam Cooper, Stuart Dallas and Kalvin Phillips this season.
We expect to see a lot more of Davis as the season goes on.
