Leeds told rival winter signing ‘would have considered’ Elland Road transfer
Leeds United were one of very few clubs in the winter who failed in their attempts to sign any new players, but it could have been a different story.
Leeds certainly took a risk in January with their inability to inject some fresh quality into their squad, although it appears as though it will pay off come the end of the campaign.
As it stands, Daniel Farke’s side are in pole position to achieve promotion back to the Premier League with a five-point advantage on second-placed Sheffield United, and a seven-point gap on Burnley in third.
Those around Leeds were able to secure signings of their own, with it now revealed that one of those players would have been willing to sign for the Whites.

Burnley star signing was willing to join Leeds
It’s looking unlikely that Leeds’ failures to sign anyone in the winter will prove costly, but at the time, it had a very different feeling.
Sunderland were able to sign Enzo Le Fee while Burnley concluded a shock deal to sign former Spurs forward Marcus Edwards, with the latter believed to have considered a move to Elland Road.
That is according to the Clarets’ head of recruitment George Foster-Vigors, who discussed the arrival of Edwards in a short behind-the-scenes documentary before the confirmation.
As quoted by Leeds Live (26 February), Foster-Vigors said: “He wants to come and try to be a part of something positive. He would consider Leeds, Sunderland or us, that are challenging for promotion.”
While Leeds may have considered Edwards at some point in the winter, it was always unlikely that the Whites would have made a move for him, given the form of Dan James in the same position.

Dan James | 28 | 10 | 8 | 7.31 |
There may have been a couple of areas of the squad that Leeds could have signed players to cover for, but very few would have improved the starting 11.
If Burnley fail to get promoted, it could be something that Leeds discuss internally, but as of now, it doesn’t appear to be a concern for the Peacocks.

James has been the star of the moment for Leeds
Having contributed two assists in the win against Sheffield United, the Welshman has now registered a remarkable 18 goal contributions in the Championship.
Simply put, he has been one of the most important players for Leeds this season, and if they were actively looking for signings in the winter, it’s highly unlikely that the right wing position was one considered.
Farke has utilised his squad well throughout the campaign, and it’s not likely to be long until they receive their reward for what has been an excellent season.
