Leeds to sign ‘proven’ Premier League striker as £10m transfer news revealed

Leeds United are having to plan ahead for the summer transfer window as they edge closer to a Premier League promotion.

The Elland Road outfit moved five points clear at the top of the Championship table after beating promotion rivals Sheffield United 3-1 at Bramall Lane on Monday, 24 February.

With only 12 games left to play, Leeds are increasingly likely to earn automatic promotion this season, meaning they have to start thinking about life in the Premier League already.

This includes making plans to strengthen their squad and deciding on the futures of players already in their ranks at the moment, including Manor Solomon.

Carlton Palmer flags Solomon ‘risk factor’

Leeds must decide if they want to make Solomon’s loan move from Tottenham permanent, with the attacker available for a fee in the region of £10-15million, as per Carlton Palmer.

The former Whites midfielder has been impressed by the 25-year-old’s performances this season, hailing him as “outstanding”, but raised concerns over spending as much as £15m to buy him.

Palmer is unsure if Solomon is worth that much and pointed out that the Israel international’s injury record is a “risk factor”.

He added that Leeds must focus on signing a proven Premier League striker, insisting that it will be a priority for Daniel Farke too.

“Spurs have named their price for Manor Solomon, who is on loan at Leeds United”, Palmer told FLW (26 February). “The fee is believed to be between £10-15million.

“He’s been an outstanding performer on loan from Tottenham, he’s been on absolute fire the last few months so there is talk of a permanent deal with Leeds edging ever closer to going back to the Premier League.

“Leeds are already preparing for life in the Premier League, you have to start thinking and planning ahead of the summer.

“The 25-year-old has been in really good form for them, but is he worth £10-15 million? He’s a wide man, he’s not an out-and-out striker and they need to bring in a striker.

“He has scored and assisted seven apiece in the Championship this season, only Dan James and [Joel] Piroe have more goal involvements for Leeds. He’s having a really good season.

“But there is a risk factor. He’s had a lot of injuries, that’s what curtailed his season with Tottenham in the Premier League. You’ve got to factor that in.

“The second thing to consider is, is he worth £10-15 million? They need to bring in a proven Premier League striker.

“£10-15 million isn’t a lot of money but they have to be very careful with this because they want to stay in the Premier League, he is a quality player, he’s got to play regular football, he’s too good for the Championship as we’ve seen.

“I think it would be a good bit of business if he stays fit. At £10-15 million, it could be a really good bit of business. We’ll have to wait until the end of the season but I’m sure a striker is the priority for Farke.”

Leeds could do deal with Tottenham

Solomon has been a reliable presence in Farke’s team this season, missing only four games through injury so far, and that means Leeds need not be concerned about his fitness record.

The reported transfer fee of £10-15million also seems fair considering his performances for the Elland Road outfit, who would also be able to afford the sum without problems if they earn promotion.

Therefore, there is no reason why the West Yorkshire outfit should not seek to do a deal with Tottenham over the permanent signing of Solomon.
