Leeds table another huge bid for Ben White, Brighton set to deliver answer – report

Leeds United have put another huge bid in for Brighton centre-back Ben White, according to The Sun.

The report claims that Leeds have made a bid that totals £35m – £30m in cash and an extra £5m in add-ons.

The Sun claim that Leeds are still waiting for Brighton to respond but that the bid will be “rejected out of hand”.

In a fairly sensational story, The Sun also claims that every top-six side in the Premier League has contacted Brighton about White, which would make him the hottest property this summer.

Allegedly, Brighton don’t want to sell and it would take £50m to persuade them otherwise.

White must be loving it

We’re not sure about this.

Phil Hay said that Leeds had made two bids already (£18m and £22m) and would probably go up to £30m for Ben White so the bid the Sun is reporting isn’t out of the realm of possibility.

But, if Brighton rate him at £50m, why did The Sun also report another ‘exclusive‘ just 24 hours earlier that Graham Potter wants to run the rule over him in preseason to see if he’s worth a new contract?

Also, with all the will in the world, that £50m valuation just seems to be way too much to be true.

We know how good Ben White is, but he hasn’t played in the Premier League yet and the market is said to be depressed because of the Coronavirus pandemic.

This smacks of a story that White himself will love to read but one we’re going to take with a pinch of salt.

However, if the report of the £50m valuation is correct then at least it draws a line under the saga that’s already getting a bit painful.

There’s no way Leeds should pay Brighton that much for a player developed under Marcelo Bielsa.
