Leeds swipe taken after what Scots journalist saw amid Rangers-49ers takeover
Leeds United have been the focus of a fresh dig as rumours persist over the 49ers takeover of Rangers.
Daniel Farke’s side have one foot in the Premier League heading into a crucial encounter at Bramall Lane as the final 13 games of the season approach.
An away clash with Sheffield United will paint a clearer picture of the Championship title race, which has been largely spearheaded by the 49ers Enterprises with their backing of the Whites.
The Peacocks have built a remarkable squad for this level although a lack of investment in the winter certainly saw Leeds take a risk, though it appears to be paying off.
Leeds’ US-based ownership have been in talks in regard to taking over Rangers, with that development leading to a cheap dig at the Whites’ expense.

49ers ‘impediment’ leads to cheap Leeds dig
If the takeover were to go through, one of the only concerns to have emerged is in regard to the possibility of the two sides facing off against each other in European competition.
While at the current moment that appears unlikely for Leeds, it is certainly a possibility in the near future with the necessary investment and decision-making in place.
Championship top two | W | L | D | GF | GA |
Leeds United (72 points) | 21 | 9 | 3 | 68 | 20 |
Sheffield United (70 points) | 22 | 6 | 5 | 47 | 23 |
However, Sunday Mail journalist Hugh Keevins couldn’t resist the urge to take a swipe at the Whites and their chances of being involved in that situation.
Writing via the print edition of the news outlet (23 February, pg 59), Keevins said: “They want to be sure there are no bureaucratic impediments to meeting Leeds in the latter stages of the Champions League?
“Having watched Leeds play Sunderland on Monday night, I would say they wouldn’t get that far while under hypnosis, never mind American ownership.”

Leeds have a bright future, but promotion must be the focus
While everyone at Elland Road would love to prove Keevins wrong, the one and only focus for now has to be on achieving promotion which as it stands, Leeds are in the driving seat for.
Should that be achieved, Leeds have every chance of building for a bright future and the potential for European qualification further down the line has to be a consideration.
With the pulling power of the Whites, matched with the level of quality already in the squad, the sky is the limit for Leeds but things must be taken one step at a time.
