Leeds Super Fans react to Kalvin Phillips transfer update
This is part of a regular series from our panel of Leeds United Super Fans. Each week, Super Fans from our Leeds Insider Facebook page will deliver their verdicts on the biggest talking points and news stories around Elland Road…
Premier League giants Liverpool have reportedly joined the race to sign Leeds United superstar Kalvin Phillips in the January transfer window.
According to reports from the Daily Star, Manchester United are keen to sign the England international who the Whites value at £60 million.
The Red Devils are looking to bolster their central midfield this summer, and they have earmarked Phillips for the role.
Liverpool have now joined the race, with Jurgen Klopp keen to make a move for him as early as this January.
The 25-year-old has a contract at the club till 2024. The Athletic reported earlier this month that Leeds are planning to offer him a new improved deal at the club.
Marcelo Bielsa has recently admitted that at some point Leeds may have to part ways with Phillips, but a move in January looks unlikely.
Phillips wants to continue at Leeds and he has indicated that he is keen to negotiate and sign an improved contract. Put it simply, an improved contract will give Leeds an upper hand in the transfer market.
We asked our esteemed panel of Super Fans for their thoughts on the Phillips transfer saga, and the majority weren’t too happy.
The majority insisted that it would take up to £80-100million for talks to even begin over selling our star player, with one fan suggesting that we should even ask for Jordan Henderson in return as well.
Here’s what they said below…
There is a feeling that Phillips is threatening to outgrow Leeds, but there’s no way we can sell him mid-way through the season, especially after a poor start.
In other Leeds United news, it’s been confirmed this star player will miss the trip to Norwich on Sunday.
